Is Avlayah available in Qatar? How families get Avlayah (tividenofusp alfa-eknm)

A plain answer for families in Qatar, checked against FDA, manufacturer and regulator sources.

Reviewed by the Reserve Meds clinical operations team on 13 October 2026.

Is Avlayah available in Qatar?

Avlayah (tividenofusp alfa-eknm) is an FDA-approved brain-penetrant enzyme replacement therapy for Hunter syndrome (MPS II) affecting the brain. As of 13 October 2026, we found no public record that Avlayah is registered by MoPH in Qatar. The legal route is a named-patient request: the treating hospital, on your specialist's request, asks the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) for permission to import Avlayah for one patient, using the US FDA approval as the reference. Once approved, Reserve Meds arranges supply through a US-licensed pharmaceutical wholesale partner to the hospital pharmacy. We do not prescribe. We give you a written timeline estimate for your case before you commit.

What Avlayah is

Avlayah (tividenofusp alfa-eknm) is made by Denali Therapeutics. The US FDA approved it on 24 March 2026 for the neurologic manifestations of Hunter syndrome (mucopolysaccharidosis type II, MPS II) in pediatric patients. It is given as a once-weekly intravenous (IV) infusion.

The FDA gave accelerated approval based on lower heparan sulfate in the spinal fluid. A confirmatory trial is ongoing, and continued approval may depend on it. Your child's metabolic specialist will explain infusion reactions and monitoring.

We found no approval outside the United States in public sources as of 13 October 2026.

The legal route in Qatar

In Qatar, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), through its Department of Pharmacy and Drug Control, supervises the registration and importation of medicines.

For a medicine that is not registered in Qatar, the treating hospital asks MoPH for approval to import it for the patient. Your hospital pharmacy prepares the request and confirms the current MoPH procedure.

Qatar's hospitals already give some specialty therapies. For example, Sidra Medicine reported in April 2026 that it had treated its tenth patient with the Duchenne gene therapy Elevidys, and that the treatment is free for Qatari citizens.

Ask your hospital pharmacy to confirm the current status with MoPH's Department of Pharmacy and Drug Control before anything is filed.

Who does what

  • Your treating specialist decides whether Avlayah is right for the patient and writes the letter and prescription.
  • The hospital files the request and is responsible for giving the medicine safely.
  • The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) decides whether to approve an import of an unregistered medicine.
  • Denali Therapeutics makes Avlayah and decides where it can be supplied.
  • Reserve Meds coordinates the paperwork, the US supply through our wholesale partner, shipping and updates to your family. We do not give medical advice.

Documents the hospital will usually need

  • A letter from the treating specialist: diagnosis, past treatments, and why Avlayah is needed
  • A prescription with the dose and how long treatment should last
  • Supporting reports, such as pathology, genetic or laboratory results
  • The hospital's request form and its signed declaration of responsibility
  • Written consent from the patient or a legal guardian
  • Proof of the US FDA approval and the US prescribing information (we can supply these)

Timeline, step by step

  1. Doctor's letter. Your specialist writes the clinical letter and prescription.
  2. Hospital request. The hospital pharmacy files the named-patient request with MoPH.
  3. Regulator decision. MoPH reviews the request and issues an approval or asks for more information.
  4. US sourcing. Our US-licensed wholesale partner supplies the medicine, and it is shipped with the right temperature controls.
  5. Hospital receipt. The medicine is received at the hospital pharmacy, which gives it to the patient.

The overall time is our planning estimate, not a promise. The regulator and the manufacturer set their own timelines.
