Is Kisunla available in the UAE?

Kisunla has an active code in Abu Dhabi's official drug list (checked 17 October 2026); its federal status is unverified. It is an anti-amyloid antibody for early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease. In Abu Dhabi, your specialist can prescribe it through a hospital that stocks it. Elsewhere in the UAE, the hospital pharmacy confirms status first.

  • Registration: Listed with an active code (E40-C480-15295-01) in the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DoH) drug code list (release of 26 September 2026); we could not verify its federal EDE status.
  • Access route: Prescription through a hospital that stocks it (listed in Abu Dhabi); elsewhere the hospital confirms status first.
  • Who acts: your treating specialist and hospital; the hospital pharmacy orders it.
  • Timeline: We give you a written timeline estimate for your case before you commit.

What Kisunla is

Kisunla (donanemab) is made by Eli Lilly. The US FDA approved Kisunla on 2 July 2024 for early symptomatic Alzheimer's disease, including mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia, with confirmed amyloid pathology.

How it is given: An intravenous (IV) infusion of about 30 minutes every four weeks: 700 mg for the first three doses, then 1,400 mg. Doctors can consider stopping once amyloid plaques fall to minimal levels on a PET scan. It has a boxed warning for amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), which can be serious and, rarely, fatal.

How access works in the UAE

Because Kisunla is listed in Abu Dhabi, a specialist can prescribe it through a hospital that stocks it, and the hospital pharmacy orders it through the local supply channel. A named-patient import is meant for medicines that are not registered, so it is not the usual route.

If your hospital cannot obtain it, ask the hospital pharmacy why. The reason may be stock, the hospital formulary or funding, and each has a different answer.

The Abu Dhabi list covers coded products in that emirate. Ask the hospital pharmacy to confirm the current status with EDE and, for Abu Dhabi or Dubai hospitals, with DoH or DHA.

If a hospital outside Abu Dhabi needs to import it:

The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) is the UAE's federal medicines regulator. It was created by Federal Decree No. 28 of 2023 and took over the medicines role of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP). Medicines normally have to be registered before they are used.

For a medicine that is not registered, the treating hospital asks for approval to import it for a specific patient. The hospital signs an undertaking that it takes responsibility for the medicine's use and shows that the medicine is registered in its country of origin. FDA approval makes this easier. The medicine stays inside the hospital system and cannot be resold.

Hospitals in Abu Dhabi are licensed by the Department of Health (DoH), and hospitals in Dubai by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Your hospital pharmacy knows which office handles the file for your hospital today.

Who does what

  • Your treating specialist decides whether Kisunla is right for the patient and writes the referral or prescription.
  • The hospital or treatment center orders and gives the medicine, and is responsible for using it safely.
  • The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) registers medicines and decides on any import request for a medicine that is not registered.
  • Eli Lilly makes Kisunla and decides where it can be supplied.
  • Reserve Meds helps your family understand the steps, organizes records and communication, and, where an import is needed, arranges US supply through our licensed wholesale partner. We do not give medical advice.

Documents you will usually need

  • Confirmation of amyloid (amyloid PET scan or spinal fluid test) and a recent brain MRI
  • A prescription or treatment plan from the specialist, with the dose and duration
  • Recent clinic notes and laboratory results
  • For an import request: the hospital's request form, its signed declaration of responsibility, written patient consent, and proof of the US FDA approval (we can supply the US prescribing information)

Steps

  1. Assessment. Your specialist confirms that the patient fits the approved use and orders the needed tests.
  2. Prescription. The specialist prescribes it at a hospital that stocks it.
  3. Supply. The hospital pharmacy orders it through the local supply channel.
  4. Treatment. The patient starts treatment with the monitoring the label requires.

How Reserve Meds helps

Reserve Meds is a digital health company. Medicines are supplied through a US-licensed pharmaceutical wholesale partner. We coordinate access to FDA-approved medicines only. We help your family understand the route, organize records and communication with the hospital or center, and, where an import is approved, arrange US supply and shipping. We do not prescribe, and we do not decide what the regulator or a treatment center approves.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai

This guide covers the whole UAE, including Abu Dhabi and Dubai. At federal level, medicines are regulated by the Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) and the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP). MOHAP also issues permits to import medicines for personal use. Hospitals, clinics and doctors are licensed by the health authority of their own emirate: the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH) in Abu Dhabi, and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) in Dubai.

In practice, the hospital that treats you follows the rules of its own emirate, so the paperwork is prepared for that hospital. Tell us which hospital or doctor is treating you, in Abu Dhabi, Dubai or another emirate, and we prepare the document pack for that route.
