What Leqembi is
Leqembi (lecanemab) is made by Eisai (with Biogen). The US FDA converted Leqembi to traditional approval on 6 July 2023 for Alzheimer's disease, studied in people with mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia and confirmed amyloid. On 29 August 2025 the FDA approved Leqembi Iqlik, a weekly injection under the skin for maintenance after 18 months of infusions.
How it is given: An intravenous (IV) infusion of 10 mg/kg every two weeks. After 18 months, patients can switch to a 360 mg weekly injection under the skin (Leqembi Iqlik) or continue infusions every four weeks. It has a boxed warning for amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA), brain swelling or small bleeds that are usually silent but can be serious. People with two copies of the ApoE e4 gene have a higher risk, so testing is advised before starting.
How access works in Saudi Arabia
Because Leqembi is registered, a specialist can prescribe it through a hospital that stocks it, and the hospital pharmacy orders it through the local supply channel. A named-patient import is meant for medicines that are not registered, so it is not the usual route.
If your hospital cannot obtain it, ask the hospital pharmacy why. The reason may be stock, the hospital formulary or funding, and each has a different answer.
Public lists can lag behind decisions, so the hospital pharmacy confirms the current status before treatment is planned.
Who does what
- Your treating specialist decides whether Leqembi is right for the patient and writes the referral or prescription.
- The hospital or treatment center orders and gives the medicine, and is responsible for using it safely.
- The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) registers medicines and decides on any import request for a medicine that is not registered.
- Eisai (with Biogen) makes Leqembi and decides where it can be supplied.
- Reserve Meds helps your family understand the steps, organizes records and communication, and, where an import is needed, arranges US supply through our licensed wholesale partner. We do not give medical advice.
Documents you will usually need
- Confirmation of amyloid (amyloid PET scan or spinal fluid test), a recent brain MRI, and an ApoE e4 test result if available
- A prescription or treatment plan from the specialist, with the dose and duration
- Recent clinic notes and laboratory results
- For an import request: the hospital's request form, its signed declaration of responsibility, written patient consent, and proof of the US FDA approval (we can supply the US prescribing information)
Steps
- Assessment. Your specialist confirms that the patient fits the approved use and orders the needed tests.
- Prescription. The specialist prescribes it at a hospital that stocks it.
- Supply. The hospital pharmacy orders it through the local supply channel.
- Treatment. The patient starts treatment with the monitoring the label requires.

How Reserve Meds helps
Reserve Meds is a digital health company. Medicines are supplied through a US-licensed pharmaceutical wholesale partner. We coordinate access to FDA-approved medicines only. We help your family understand the route, organize records and communication with the hospital or center, and, where an import is approved, arrange US supply and shipping. We do not prescribe, and we do not decide what the regulator or a treatment center approves.
