Is Tecelra available in Saudi Arabia? How families get Tecelra (afamitresgene autoleucel)
A plain answer for families in Saudi Arabia, checked against FDA, manufacturer and regulator sources.

Is Tecelra available in Saudi Arabia?
Tecelra (afamitresgene autoleucel) is an FDA-approved one-time engineered T-cell therapy made from the patient's own immune cells for advanced synovial sarcoma (MAGE-A4 positive, with specific HLA types). Tecelra is not in SFDA's public Drugs List. We checked all 9,173 entries by brand and generic name on 17 October 2026. Tecelra is given only at specialized treatment centers, so for most families in Saudi Arabia the realistic route is treatment at a qualified center abroad, after a referral from the treating specialist. If a hospital in Saudi Arabia wants to give it locally, the manufacturer must agree to supply that hospital and the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) must approve the import. Reserve Meds helps organize the referral and logistics. We do not prescribe.
- Registration in Saudi Arabia: not in SFDA's public Drugs List, checked 17 October 2026.
- Legal route: Treatment at a qualified center abroad, or a hospital import request if the manufacturer agrees.
- Who applies: your treating specialist refers the patient to a qualified center; a hospital in Saudi Arabia applies to SFDA only if the manufacturer agrees to supply it.
- Timeline: We give you a written timeline estimate once we see the hospital file. The regulator and the manufacturer set their own timelines.
- Medicine price: quote on request. Every case gets a written custom quote before you commit.
What Tecelra is
Tecelra (afamitresgene autoleucel) is made by USWM CT, LLC (the manufacturer named on the June 2026 US label; the FDA first approved it for Adaptimmune). The US FDA approved it on 1 August 2024 for adults and children 12 years and older with synovial sarcoma that cannot be removed by surgery or has spread, who have had chemotherapy before, who carry certain HLA-A*02 tissue types, and whose tumor expresses the MAGE-A4 protein on an FDA-approved or cleared test. It is given as a single intravenous (IV) infusion of the patient's own T cells, which are collected by leukapheresis, modified in a manufacturing facility, and given after lymphodepleting chemotherapy.
In the SPEARHEAD-1 trial described in the US label, the tumor shrank in 43.8% of the 137 treated patients. In June 2026 the FDA updated the label to include patients 12 and older and removed the accelerated approval statement. It has a boxed warning for cytokine release syndrome, which can be severe or life-threatening. The label also warns about nerve-related side effects (ICANS), long-lasting low blood counts and infections.
We did not find it in SFDA's public Drugs List or in Abu Dhabi's drug code list when we checked on 17 October 2026.
Registration status in Saudi Arabia
Tecelra is not in SFDA's public Drugs List. We checked all 9,173 entries by brand and generic name on 17 October 2026. The same list does include registered gene and cell therapies such as Zolgensma and Casgevy.
SFDA's list can change. Ask your hospital pharmacy to confirm the status in SFDA's system before anything is filed.
The legal route in Saudi Arabia
Tecelra is made from each patient's own T cells. The cells are collected, sent for manufacture and given back as a single infusion after chemotherapy, by a team ready to treat cytokine release syndrome. The US label reports a 7% chance of manufacturing or shipping failure in the trial. At launch in 2024 the company planned to offer it through designated treatment centers in the United States.
For a family in Saudi Arabia, that leaves two realistic routes. First, treatment at a qualified center abroad, after your specialist refers you and the center accepts the patient. Second, a hospital in Saudi Arabia asks the manufacturer, USWM CT, LLC, whether it will supply that hospital. If the manufacturer agrees, the hospital still needs import approval from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). We cannot promise that a manufacturer will agree.
How a hospital import request works in Saudi Arabia, if it is ever needed:
Because Tecelra is approved by the US FDA, a licensed Saudi hospital can ask SFDA for permission to import it for one named patient. This is often called the named-patient route.
SFDA expects the medicine to be registered with at least one reference regulator, such as the US FDA or the European Medicines Agency. The hospital signs a declaration that it takes responsibility for safe use. A licensed importer signs a declaration covering quality during transport. The patient or a legal guardian gives written consent after the treating doctor explains the benefits and risks.
SFDA also runs a Special Access Program. Its guidance names the product's sponsor, or the licensed treating physician when there is no sponsor, as the requester. Your hospital pharmacy will know which SFDA route fits your case.
Who does what
- Your treating specialist decides whether Tecelra is right for the patient and writes the letter.
- The hospital refers the patient, or files a local import request if that becomes possible.
- The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) decides whether to approve an import of a medicine that is not registered.
- USWM CT, LLC makes Tecelra and decides where it can be supplied.
- Reserve Meds can help organize records and logistics, and keeps your family updated. We do not give medical advice.
Documents you will usually need
- A referral letter from the treating specialist: diagnosis, test results and why this treatment is being considered
- Genetic or laboratory reports that confirm the diagnosis, translated into English where needed
- Recent clinic notes, imaging and a list of past treatments
- Passport and travel documents, if treatment happens abroad
- A funding plan: personal funds, insurer approval, or a government treatment-abroad decision
Timeline, step by step
- Referral. Your specialist prepares a referral letter and the medical records.
- Center review. A qualified treatment center reviews the records and decides whether the patient is eligible.
- Funding and travel. The family confirms funding and plans travel and accommodation.
- Preparation. The center runs tests and, for some products, collects cells or tissue to make the treatment.
- Treatment and follow-up. The patient is treated and then followed up by the center and the home specialist.
We give you a written timeline estimate once we see the hospital file. The regulator and the manufacturer set their own timelines.
