Is Zevaskyn available in Saudi Arabia? Status, route and cost

A plain answer for families in Saudi Arabia, checked against FDA, regulator and manufacturer sources on 17 October 2026.

Is Zevaskyn available in Saudi Arabia?

Zevaskyn is not in SFDA's public Drugs List (checked 17 October 2026). It is a gene-corrected skin-sheet therapy for wounds in recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, given only at specialized centers. The realistic routes are a qualified center abroad, or a hospital import if the manufacturer agrees and SFDA approves.

  • Registration: Not found in the SFDA public Drugs List when we searched all 9,173 entries by brand and generic name on 17 October 2026.
  • Access route: Treatment at a qualified center abroad, or a hospital import request to SFDA if the manufacturer agrees.
  • Who acts: your specialist refers the patient abroad; a hospital in Saudi Arabia applies to SFDA only if the manufacturer agrees to supply it.
  • Timeline: We give you a written timeline estimate for your case before you commit.
  • Medicine price: quote on request. Every case gets a written custom quote before you commit.

What Zevaskyn is

Zevaskyn (prademagene zamikeracel) is made by Abeona Therapeutics. The US FDA approved Zevaskyn on 28 April 2025 for wounds in adult and pediatric patients with recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB).

How it is given: Skin sheets are grown from the patient's own skin cells, corrected with a working collagen gene, and applied to wounds in surgery at a qualified treatment center. The sheets are made over about 25 days and last about 84 hours after release, so treatment happens at a qualified US center. The surgical team will explain anesthesia and wound-care risks.

How access works in Saudi Arabia

Zevaskyn is given only at specialized treatment centers. It is not a medicine a family can collect, or a clinic can give in an outpatient room.

For a family in Saudi Arabia, that leaves two realistic routes. First, treatment at a qualified center abroad, after your specialist refers you and the center accepts the patient. Second, a hospital in Saudi Arabia asks the manufacturer, Abeona Therapeutics, whether it will supply that hospital. If the manufacturer agrees, the hospital still needs import approval from the Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA). We cannot promise that a manufacturer will agree.

How a hospital import request works in Saudi Arabia, if it is ever needed:

Because Zevaskyn is approved by the US FDA, a licensed Saudi hospital can ask SFDA for permission to import it for one named patient. This is often called the named-patient route.

SFDA expects the medicine to be registered with at least one reference regulator, such as the US FDA or the European Medicines Agency. The hospital signs a declaration that it takes responsibility for safe use. A licensed importer signs a declaration covering quality during transport. The patient or a legal guardian gives written consent after the treating doctor explains the benefits and risks.

SFDA's Special Access Program is a different route, for medicines with no reference approval anywhere, such as products still in clinical trials. Zevaskyn does not need that route because it already has FDA approval.

Public lists can lag behind registration decisions, so the hospital pharmacy confirms the status in SFDA's system before anything is filed.

Who does what

  • Your treating specialist decides whether Zevaskyn is right for the patient and writes the referral or prescription.
  • The hospital or treatment center checks eligibility, plans treatment and is responsible for giving it safely.
  • The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) registers medicines and decides on any import request for a medicine that is not registered.
  • Abeona Therapeutics makes Zevaskyn and decides where it can be supplied.
  • Reserve Meds helps your family understand the steps, organizes records and communication, and, where an import is needed, arranges US supply through our licensed wholesale partner. We do not give medical advice.

Documents you will usually need

  • Genetic confirmation of RDEB (COL7A1) and photos or a map of the wounds to be treated
  • A referral letter from the treating specialist with the diagnosis, past treatments and why this treatment is being considered
  • Recent clinic notes, imaging and laboratory results
  • Identity documents and a funding plan (personal funds, insurer approval or a government treatment decision)
  • Passport and travel documents, if treatment happens abroad

Steps

  1. Referral. Your specialist prepares a referral letter and the medical records.
  2. Center review. A qualified treatment center reviews the records and decides whether the patient is eligible.
  3. Funding. The family confirms funding with the center, an insurer or a government program.
  4. Preparation. The center runs tests and, for cell-based products, collects cells to make the treatment.
  5. Treatment and follow-up. The patient is treated and then followed up by the center and the home specialist.

How Reserve Meds helps

Reserve Meds is a digital health company. Medicines are supplied through a US-licensed pharmaceutical wholesale partner. We coordinate access to FDA-approved medicines only. We help your family understand the route, organize records and communication with the hospital or center, and, where an import is approved, arrange US supply and shipping. We do not prescribe, and we do not decide what the regulator or a treatment center approves.
