Is Poherdy available in the UAE?
Poherdy is not in Abu Dhabi's official drug code list (checked 17 October 2026), while Perjeta, the medicine it copies, has an active code there. Federal status is unverified. Poherdy is a biosimilar to Perjeta for HER2-positive breast cancer, given by infusion. If Poherdy itself is needed, the treating hospital requests import approval.
- Registration: Not in Abu Dhabi's drug code list (26 September 2026 release); Perjeta and Phesgo have active codes; federal status unverified.

What Poherdy is
Poherdy (pertuzumab-dpzb) is a biosimilar to Perjeta (pertuzumab). It is made by Shanghai Henlius Biotech and distributed in the US by Organon. The FDA announced its approval on 13 November 2025 as the first biosimilar to Perjeta, and also as interchangeable with Perjeta. In the US, interchangeable means a pharmacy may substitute it for Perjeta without contacting the prescriber, where state pharmacy law allows. Other countries set their own rules.
It is used together with trastuzumab and chemotherapy in adults with HER2-positive breast cancer: for metastatic breast cancer, with trastuzumab and docetaxel, when no anti-HER2 therapy or chemotherapy has been given for metastatic disease; before surgery (neoadjuvant) for locally advanced, inflammatory or early-stage breast cancer that is larger than 2 cm or has spread to lymph nodes; and after surgery (adjuvant) for early breast cancer at high risk of coming back.
How it is given and safety
It is given by intravenous infusion: a first dose of 840 mg over 60 minutes, then 420 mg every 3 weeks over 30 to 60 minutes. It comes as a 420 mg/14 mL single-dose vial that must be kept in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C, protected from light, and not frozen or shaken. Any shipment therefore needs a cold chain.
The US label has a boxed warning. Pertuzumab products can weaken the heart's pumping (a fall in LVEF, or heart failure), so heart function is checked before and during treatment. Exposure during pregnancy can cause the loss of the baby or birth defects. Other serious risks are infusion reactions and allergic reactions. Common side effects include diarrhea, hair loss, low white blood cell counts, nausea and tiredness.
How access works in the UAE
Because Perjeta and Phesgo have active codes in Abu Dhabi, start by asking your oncologist whether one of them meets the need through the local supply route. They contain the same active substance, pertuzumab. A drug code shows that a product is set up in Abu Dhabi's system; it does not confirm stock, eligibility or funding.
If your oncologist needs Poherdy itself, this is how a hospital import request works:
The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) is the UAE's federal medicines regulator. It was created by Federal Decree No. 28 of 2023 and took over the medicines role of the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP). Medicines normally have to be registered before they are used.
For a medicine that is not registered, the treating hospital asks for approval to import it for a specific patient. The hospital signs an undertaking that it takes responsibility for the medicine's use and shows that the medicine is registered in its country of origin. FDA approval makes this easier. The medicine stays inside the hospital system and cannot be resold.
Hospitals in Abu Dhabi are licensed by the Department of Health (DoH), and hospitals in Dubai by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). Your hospital pharmacy knows which office handles the file for your hospital today.
The Abu Dhabi list covers coded products in that emirate, and we could not check the federal EDE directory. Ask the hospital pharmacy to confirm the current status with EDE and, for Abu Dhabi or Dubai hospitals, with DoH or DHA.
Who does what
- Your treating specialist decides whether Poherdy is right for the patient and writes the clinical letter and prescription.
- The hospital files the import request, receives the medicine and gives the infusion.
- The Emirates Drug Establishment (EDE) registers medicines and decides on any import request for a medicine that is not registered.
- Henlius and Organon make Poherdy and decide where it is supplied.
- Reserve Meds helps your family understand the steps, organizes records and communication, and, where an import is approved, arranges US supply through our licensed wholesale partner. We do not give medical advice.
Documents you will usually need
- The pathology report confirming HER2-positive breast cancer, with the stage
- A recent heart function result (LVEF), because the label requires a heart check before treatment
- The oncologist's treatment plan, including the trastuzumab and chemotherapy that will be given with it
- For an import request: the hospital's request form, its signed declaration of responsibility, written patient consent, and proof of the US FDA approval (we can supply the US prescribing information)
Steps
- Doctor's letter. Your specialist writes the clinical letter and prescription.
- Hospital request. The hospital pharmacy files the import request with EDE.
- Regulator decision. EDE reviews the request and approves it or asks for more information.
- US sourcing. Our US-licensed wholesale partner supplies the medicine, shipped refrigerated at 2°C to 8°C.
- Hospital receipt. The hospital pharmacy receives the medicine and the infusion is given.
